A day of food, entertainment and fun will cap off the New Zealand International Science Festival next month.

The six-day festival, which will feature more than 200 science-related events, including Science Idol, Appetising Astronomy and the Science of Beer, will finish with the Fun and Food Fiesta.

Chocolate will feature strongly at the fiesta, which will double as the opening event of the Cadbury Chocolate Carnival.

Pier 24 executive chef Michael Coughlin said he would dispel the myth that working with chocolate was difficult.

He would demonstrate how to melt chocolate and make some simple decorations.

Having worked with chocolate for 30 years, he believed it was a dying art because the science behind it put people off learning about it.

The food fiesta will be held on July 11, from 10am to 3pm, at the Lion Foundation Arena, Dunedin.
