Dunedin singer-songwriter Matt Langley has won the Apra Best Country Song Award for 2010.

Langley collected the trophy at the New Zealand Country Music Awards at the St James Theatre, Gore, last night. The national award ceremony forms part of Gore's Gold Guitars week, now in its 37th year and expected to attract 5000 fans.

• He's a little bit country

Langley's track, 7.13, was chosen ahead of Dianne Swann's So Alive and Jools Topp's Honky Tonk Angel.

The song features on Langley's first full-length album, Featherbones, due to be released on his own record label later this year. Langley said he had lost count of how many times he had entered the country song award, so he was "stoked" to win.

In another notable result last night, Auckland-based Tami Neilson followed up her 2009 success by winning the Recording Industry Association (RIANZ) Best Country Music Album Award for The Kitchen Table Sessions, beating The Bads and The Topp Twins.

Neilson's album features guest performances by members of her family and includes a bluegrass rendition of Dave Dobbyn's Slice of Heaven.
