Man dies in off-road accident

The serious crash unit was yesterday investigating the cause of a crash in which one man was killed and two others injured.

Ib Alsing Clausen (47), of Makarora, died after being thrown from a 4WD after it rolled on an off-road track near Makarora about 3.45pm on Saturday.

Emergency services from Lake Hawea and Wanaka were assisted by the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter.

Two other people in the 4WD were flown to the Wanaka Lakes Health Centre with minor injuries.

A fourth person involved in the crash was not injured.

● An 11-year-old girl remains in a critical condition in Starship hospital after colliding with another vehicle while riding a motorcycle. 

The girl was riding a 50cc motorcycle out of a paddock when she collided with a car on Thompsons Crossing Rd West near Winton, about 2.30pm on Saturday.

She was taken to Invercargill Hospital with serious head and leg injuries, but was then transferred to Starship Hospital in Auckland.
