Consent decision appeal

Alexandra developer Shaun McLellan is appealing the Central Otago District Council's decision to refuse consent for his proposed 15-lot subdivision off Waikerikeri Valley Rd.

Mr McLellan said his appeal, lodged with the Environment Court, would be dealt with through initial negotiation or an Environment Court appeal hearing if a compromise could not otherwise be reached.

He declined to comment further.

Mr McLellan proposed to subdivide 125.19ha of property near Alexandra into 13 lots of between 2ha and 2.44ha, as well as two larger blocks of 27.4ha and 69.95ha.

Five immediate neighbours of the proposed development lodged opposing submissions at the council, while three neither supported nor opposed it.

Council hearings panel councillors were concerned the subdivision would set a precedent and the proposal would be contrary to the objectives and policies of the district plan.

The council found the subdivision would be adverse in terms of open space, landscape, natural character and amenity values.
