It is the society's most ambitious production to date and involves a cast of 62, including 12 children.
Beveridge will be making his Les Miserables debut, although he has performed many principal roles in musical theatre.
At 29, he played the phantom in Phantom of the Opera. He has collaborated with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dame Malvina Major and Sir Howard Morrison and has also sung seven national anthems for the All Blacks - for seven victories.
Although he grew up in Rotorua, he has many relatives in Waimate, his mother's home town. The role of Valjean will be understudied by local man Colin Clearwater until Beveridge joins the cast about five weeks before the production.
Other principal roles will be played by Dougal McLachlan (Javert), Rosie Dwyer (Fantine), Alan Rakiraki (Thenardier), Bronwyn Waldron (Madame Thenardier), Meghan McCorkindale and Kate Potter (young Cosette), Sonya Creedy (adult Cosette), Nicole Bond and Olivia Harris-Rhodes (young Eponine), Rosa Studholme (adult Eponine), Jack McGeown and Jack Ludemann (Gavroche), Joshua Rye (Enjolras) and Fergus Farrell (Marius).
The Network Waitaki Season of Les Miserables opens at the Opera House on September 9 and runs until September 18. It will be directed by Duncan Whiting, with Stephen Hinds as musical director.
