The 183m-long South Korean built Matuku, which has an average speed of 14.25 knots, arrived at the oil berth in Dunedin's upper harbour yesterday.
It is scheduled to depart about 8am today.
Matuku replaces the tanker Torea.
The usual visitor to Dunedin, Kakariki, is due to be replaced at the end of next year by a ship to be built in South Korea.
The replacement for the 46,724 tonne, 17-year-old Kakariki will be a combined chemical products/bitumen tanker of 50,000 tonne deadweight.
