Police have yet to decide whether charges will be laid after two Christchurch duck-shooters at Tarras received facial injuries from shotgun pellets on the duck-shooting season opening day.
A pellet had entered the eye of one of the men. He left Dunedin Hospital yesterday.
The second man received cheek and forehead injuries and was treated at Dunedin Hospital and discharged.
Sergeant Ian Kerrisk, of Alexandra, said yesterday police were satisfied alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
The injured men, both 32, were part of a group shooting on private property.
All the group were licensed firearm-holders.
Sgt Kerrisk declined to say how the men were injured because the circumstances were still being investigated.
"We are satisfied it was not a deliberate shooting and are also satisfied that it was not as the result of a weapon fault," he said.
It was too early to say whether any of the people involved would face charges.
The men arrived at the Wanaka Medical Centre on Saturday morning and were taken to Dunedin Hospital by the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter.
One accident was "one too many", but considering the high number of shooters in the region during the weekend, the overall behaviour was good, Sgt Kerrisk said.
