But to the pupils at Anderson's Bay School, Miguel Rodriguez is the "numero uno caretaker".
For the past 20 years, Mr Rodriguez has been the school's much loved and respected caretaker.
And last week, staff and pupils surprised him with a concert to celebrate the milestone.
The 55-year-old immigrated to New Zealand from Seville in 1982.
Just months before, he had met his future wife - a Kiwi - who was on holiday in the southern Spanish city.
Mr Rodriguez said he became Anderson's Bay School's caretaker in 1990 when his daughter enrolled at the school.
"She was a trouble maker. She was the one who suggested I become the caretaker," he said.
He took the job because he saw it as an opportunity to watch his daughter and son grow up.
Twenty years later, he now has the privilege of being able to watch his first granddaughter grow up at the school.
Mr Rodriguez said he enjoyed his work today as much as he did the day he started the job.
As well as maintaining the buildings and grounds, he also helps coach the school's sports teams.
His number one aim was to make sure everybody at the school remained happy.
"If I see sad people, it makes me sad."
Much to the staff and pupils' relief, Mr Rodriguez said he had no plans to retire just yet.
"As long as I can keep making people happy, I'm keen to keep doing my job."
