The Arrowtown Volunteer Fire Brigade will hold a bingo night later this month to raise money for the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation.
Julie Hughes, of Arrow Events, said volunteer firefighters Chris Tate, Terry Youngman, John Hillock and Rob Andrews had raised more than $8000 to date.
They had "well and truly" exceeded their initial target of $3000, which was reset at $5000 before being boosted to a "huge" $10,000.
"It has just snowballed, but there's still a way to go.
"Bingo is a fun night out so hopefully a lot of people will come."
The four men will compete in the Auckland Sky Tower Challenge on May 22.
The challenge involves firefighters from around the country running up 51 flights of stairs - 1100 steps - to the top of the 328km Sky Tower while wearing gear weighing 26kg.
The bingo night will start in the Arrowtown Hall at 7pm on April 29. Tickets are $10 per person.
