Hunters trespassed after deer-shooting mistake

Three hunters have been forbidden from entering a Dumbarton property for two years after killing a deer on the farm yesterday afternoon.

Constable Jape Wanoa, of Roxburgh, said the men, one from Heriot and two from Dunedin, had permission to hunt on one property but had shot the deer on the neighbouring farm.

"They were found with a carcass of a deer in their vehicle, but the farmer decided not to lay a complaint," Const Wanoa said.

"The farmer was satisfied a genuine mistake was made on their part."

However, he had asked that the hunters be trespassed from his property, which meant they could not go on his farm for two years.

• In another incident, a 60-year-old Roxburgh man was charged with possessing cannabis yesterday.

He will appear in the Alexandra District Court on Wednesday, April 14.
