Police are praising the patience and courtesy of most drivers throughout Central Otago during Easter weekend, as vehicles were "bumper to bumper" in some areas.
Sergeant Ian Kerrisk, of Alexandra, said a few of the thousands of motorists on roads from Friday, had "minor incidents".
"Traffic has been extremely heavy throughout the weekend and bumper to bumper in Alexandra from the bridge right up Centennial Ave.
Despite that, I would have to take my hat off to the majority of drivers," he said.
Police apprehended three people for driving while intoxicated - all men from Alexandra.
On Friday morning, an 18-year-old was arrested and charged with drink-driving as well as causing a vehicle to undergo a sustained loss of traction.
"He was doing burnouts outside a party on Bantry St. His car's been impounded and he will appear in the Alexandra District Court," Sgt Kerrisk said.
Yesterday morning, a 17-year-old and a 23-year-old were apprehended just minutes apart for driving while intoxicated in Alexandra.
A 19-year-old Invercargill man was arrested in Roxburgh on Saturday morning and charged with disorderly behaviour, after reports about the occupants of a vehicle travelling from Queenstown, through Cromwell and Alexandra.
Police attended a crash at Coal Creek on Saturday night, in which a woman and her 15-year-old daughter were briefly trapped in a vehicle.
Sgt Kerrisk said the vehicle rolled down a bank.
Neither occupant was injured.
