Heart on sleeve with offering

Auckland musician Fleur Jack was last in Dunedin with another band.

"It was with my loud dirty rock band The Twitch, and we were playing Chicks Hotel, with Sex with Bowie.

"It was a Wednesday night and I was sober driver. We played well but what I truly remember about my last visit to Dunedin was the low-key after-party at Chris (Bugs) Miller's house. When it got to about 4am we were drinking Mr Vodka with plums in our glasses.

"I heard a CD of Dunedin band The Something Quartet for the first time and also met Samdrub Dawa, who plays in local band Thundercub.

"It was a glorious evening; needless to say I fell in love with the humans, the music and the night."

As Jack took to the keyboard to answer questions, Pavlova and the Jandals' trip around New Zealand hadn't started but she was looking forward to it.

"It starts on April 15 in Auckland and moves south through Napier, Wellington, Picton, Christchurch, Methven and then to lovely Dunedin. The planning is going well so far so good and no hiccups, yet.

"I've never played in Napier or Picton before and we're catching the ferry across each way and playing for free passage which is something I've never done either, so I can't wait to go."

Like many musicians who jaunt around the country, and the world, she's hawking product on her trip.

"The tour is a debut album release tour with this project (Pavlova and the Jandals). We have just under a month to go until the release show. Currently we have five out of 14 tracks mixed and we're cutting it close for timing but I'm used to working to a deadline so I'm not as stressed as you might imagine."

Fleur Jack's main band is The Twitch, who sound quite different from Pavlova and the Jandals, but she hopes people will like their music.

"I'm ... premiering my delicious folk-country-style band, and my heart is really on my sleeve with the songs we play. They mean a lot to me.

"The music is easy to digest; you could bring a date and you could even bring your mother."
