Will the Budget deliver?

No more sleeps to go... Today Finance Minister Nicola Willis delivers both her and the new government’s first Budget.

Ms Willis has already signalled the government’s Budget priorities: delivering meaningful tax reductions; identifying savings across government departments and agencies; improving public services through focused new spending; keeping tight control of government spending; and developing a long-term, sustainable pipeline of infrastructure investments.

She also said the government’s priority areas would include health, education and law and order.

Check www.odt.co.nz from 2pm onwards for online coverage of the Budget as Ms Willis announces its finer details.

Of particular interest for southerners will be what level of tax reductions they will receive and if that will actually be "meaningful"; what changes, if any, the Budget has in store for the new Dunedin hospital; and whether any of the vaunted infrastructure, education and law and order spending will be on services for southerners.

Tomorrow’s newspaper will contain in-depth analysis of Budget 2024 from ODT reporters and expert commentators, and provide everything you need to know.
