A police spokesman said emergency services responded to the crash at The Cove at 1.30pm today, following a number of calls from the public.
The harbour road was blocked for a time while the scene was cleared, the spokesman said.
A Hato Hone St John spokesman said four people were transported to hospital.
Three are in a serious condition and another person is in a moderate condition, he said.
