A man has been arrested after making threats and waving around what appeared to be a knife in the Meridian Mall this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to the scene at about 2.50pm.

‘‘The person allegedly making threats was located and taken into custody at the scene,’’ she said.

A 55-year-old man was bailed to appear in the Dunedin Court.

A witness said the man was waving around what looked like a knife while yelling threats at strangers.

‘‘The guy was a wee little fella, looked like a tween — or a small teenager.’’

He was not scared, because he would be able to ‘‘pick up the guy with one hand,’’ but he was happy he was arrested.
