Residents in Mulford St, Dunedin, have been treated to a visit from a white heron (kotuku) this week.

The bird has been seen perching on rooftops, fences and trees in the area and was observed preying on the local waxeye population.

In New Zealand they only breed near Whataroa, in South Westland, between September and January.
