Conditions were ideal yesterday for jumping on a mountainbike and (from left) Tristan Graham, 17, Campbell Gullery, 14, and Angus Graham, 13, did just that at Signal Hill, Dunedin.

It is recognised as one of the best downhill tracks in New Zealand.

Otago and Southland were bathed in sunshine yesterday and the MetService has forecast warm temperatures this week until Friday.

There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms for Fiordland this afternoon and then across Otago and Southland in the afternoon and into the evening.

Snow could fall to about 200m above sea level in Southland and Clutha on Friday and possibly dust Dunedin’s hills, MetService forecaster Paul Ngamanu said.

There could be a brief period of very cold air, he said.

Dunedin’s temperature high is forecast to dive from 21degC on Thursday to 8degC the following day.

Strong westerly winds are expected on Friday, easing the next day as fine weather returns.
