Dunedin appears set to be announced as the host for a rugby test against France next year and could also be in the running to host a second test.

However, Dunedin Venues seemed to jump the gun in anticipation of a French test announcement.

New Zealand Rugby has yet to confirm what its schedule for the year’s fixtures will be.

A Dunedin City Council agenda for today’s meeting of the finance and council-controlled organisations committee included an overview of company activities for Dunedin City Holdings Ltd (DCHL).

Mentioned under Dunedin Venues was a statement that Forsyth Barr Stadium had been allocated a game between the All Blacks and France in July.

There had also been "a bid for a second test match", the DCHL quarterly report, dated September 30, said.

Dunedin had been poised in 2021 to host two All Blacks tests in the same year for the first time, but Covid-19 prevented it.

Asked yesterday about the possibility of a second test next year, incoming Dunedin Venues chief executive Paul Doorn said discussions were being held about scheduling.

Dunedin Venues was heavily pushing for at least one test to be locked in for 2025, he said.
