A cycleway connection by the St Andrew St car park in central Dunedin may now be completed by May next year.

It had been expected development of a 3m-wide cycleway along the railway side of the car park might be done this year.

However, an "archaeological find" caused a delay, a Dunedin City Council spokesman said.

Most of the work required below ground for the cycleway connection had been completed and above-ground work would start soon.

Markings for the St Andrew St car park are to be added at the same time. The cycleway will link up with the new Water of Leith cycle and foot bridge and West Harbour shared path. The Otago Daily Times has asked for information about the archaeological find.
