TŌREA SCOTT-FYFE (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe, Waitaha, Pākeha)
2013: Involved in several environmental groups, Scott-Fyfe was selected to attend the Sir Peter Blake Youth Enviro Leaders Forum and the Hands On Science Camp.
She wanted to study arts and science subjects, and to help to bring about social and environmental change.
2023: Scott-Fyfe is studying for a master’s of arts degree (creative writing) through the International Institute of Modern Letters at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, and working on a novel that is partly set in Dunedin.
She is also completing a master’s of science degree (zoology) through the University of Otago. In the summer months, she does conservation fieldwork for the Department of Conservation.
In the summer of 2020-2021, she and some friends completed a 100-day traverse of the Southern Alps, from Arthurs Pass to Fiordland, staying as close to the main divide as they could.
EMILY GORDON
2013: Captain of the school’s senior A hockey team, Gordon was also principal second violin in the Dunedin Youth Orchestra.
She planned to study physics and/or music at the University of Otago.
2023: Receiving a Fullbright award in 2020 allowed Gordon to pursue postgraduate studies in the United States.
She has a master’s of science degree in physics and a PhD in atmospheric sciences from Colorado State University.
This month, she is taking up a postdoctoral position as a data science fellow at Stanford University in California.
She gave up hockey "due to the relentless march of time", but still plays violin as a hobby.
