RHYS BAYLY
2013: One of Otago’s top age-group cricket and football players, Bayly was also one of the school’s top academic achievers and planned a career in accountancy.
2023: A chartered accountant, Bayly recently moved to London to work as a contractor in a range of financial roles.
He previously worked at Deloitte in the Dunedin, Wellington and Dublin offices, and received a Prime Minister’s scholarship to study in Shanghai.
As well as volunteering in Ecuador, he served on the boards of Youthline Wellington and Ignite Consultants.
He played club football in Wellington last season but injuries have limited his involvement in cricket. In his last full season, in 2018, he was the leading run scorer in Dunedin premier club cricket.
TIM CHISHOLM
2013: A high achiever in maths and science, Chisholm had been awarded a silver medal at the New Zealand Biology Olympiad and a high distinction in the Australian National Chemistry Quiz.
He planned a career as a researcher in chemistry or physics.
2023: Based at the University of Cambridge, Chisholm is looking at ways to diagnose neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
As the Henslow Research Fellow at St Edmunds College, Cambridge, he works in the Yusuf Hamied department of chemistry.
He graduated from the University of Sydney with a bachelor of science (advanced with honours I and the University Medal) and completed his master’s, also in chemistry, in Sydney.
He then received a Prince of Wales scholarship to undertake his PhD in chemistry at Cambridge.
