The latest multimillion-dollar addition to Queenstown's array of attractions is scheduled to carry her first passengers on Tuesday, after an 11th-hour postponement more than two weeks ago.

Scenic cruises on Lake Wakatipu by the catamaran Spirit of Queenstown were announced yesterday by Southern Discoveries to begin from O'Regan's Wharf in the resort at 11.30am, followed by 1.45pm and 3.45pm sailings the same day.

The full summer timetable of four departures per day begins on Wednesday.

Spirit of Queenstown will travel across the lake towards Mt Nicholas Station and up towards Glenorchy, mimicking the trip that it will take on Mt Nicholas services operating from late December.

Southern Discoveries general manager John Robson said ''no other Wakatipu lake cruise goes further or sees more than the Queenstown Scenic Cruise.''

The 150-passenger Australian-built vessel has an enclosed interior area with seats and a café and bar and a sheltered and open top deck.

Southern Discoveries opens the next stage of its Queenstown tourism product range with experiences on offer at Mt Nicholas Station.

Visitors can choose from a woolshed experience, half-day high-country walks and 4WD musterer safari trips into the high country from late December.
