It has been a frustrating start for Courtney Duncan in her world title defence.

After a couple of falls, the F&H Racing rider finished ninth overall in the first round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship in Spain at the weekend.

Spanish rider Daniela Guillen took victory on home soil.

Duncan made a quick start to race one, taking the inside, and led from the first corner.

But she missed the braking point and tipped over, which let Guillen through to take the win. Duncan controlled her race after the mishap to finish third.

In race two, Duncan settled in third before she fell in the opening lap to slip to 22nd.

She pushed hard to make up the gap, but made another mistake.

It was not her day and Duncan settled for 19th place and an overall finish of ninth.

Guillen also won the second race while Lotte Van Drunen, of the Netherlands, was runner-up in both races.

Duncan now has a few weeks of training before round two in Sardinia, Italy, on April 7.
