A crash involving three vehicles has blocked State Highway 1 near Greta Valley in Canterbury.
Emergency services were called to the scene, between Scargill Valley Rd and Motunau Beach Rd, at about 4.20pm, police said in a statement.
One person is reported to have critical injuries.
The road is currently blocked, and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.
