One dead, one seriously injured in crash

One person died and another was seriously injured after a crash on Lake Sumner Rd in Canterbury on Sunday morning.

Police were called to the crash about 11.30am.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, one person died at the scene," police said in a statement.

Another person received serious injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit was investigating.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand sent two appliances from the Hawarden and Culverden stations.

The crews found a single car had rolled at the scene.

Hato Hone St John said a helicopter and operations manager attended the scene.

One person was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital.
