Three injured in Lewis Pass crash

Three people have been injured, one seriously, in a crash that has blocked the Lewis Pass in Canterbury this morning.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash on State Highway 7 about 7.30am on Thursday.

One person received serious injuries and two others were moderately injured.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said the road was closed from south of Magdalen Valley Rd to Springs Junction.

An NZTA spokesperson said there was currently no detour in place.

"Delay your journey or consider another route."

A police spokesperson said motorists should avoid the area if they can.

"The road was blocked and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.

"Motorists are also asked to take care on the roads due to the weather conditions this morning."
