The principal of Rolleston College has resigned.

The school's board of trustees announced the resignation of founding principal Steve Saville on Friday.

Chairwoman Lynley Shaw said Mr Saville and his wife Di, who also teaches at the school, are returning to Auckland where he is taking up an education consultancy role.

"This allows Steve to continue his passion of helping others deliver education in a relevant, learner-centred format, ensuring that learning engages our young people.

"Steve joined the team to build our college over 5 years ago and has been pivotal in establishing the board’s vision, strategic plan and success of the school to date," she said.

Rolleston College opened in 2017.

"On behalf of the board. I wish to express our sincere appreciation to Steve for his contribution to the college and wish them both every success for the future.

"The board will now commence the process of recruiting and appointing a new principal during the early part of 2020 and will appoint an Interim Principal whilst this process is underway" she said.
