Fire crews were alerted to the vegetation fire at Denton Park about 1.18am on Tuesday.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said a crew from the Wigram station initially had trouble accessing the blaze, which was at the rear of the park.
"Once they had managed to do so, they were able to extinguish the fire with one hose reel," he said.
The blaze is being treated as suspicious and has been passed on to police.
It follows a suspicious scrub fire at the Linwood Cemetery on Monday.
A crew from the Woolston station arrived at the cemetery near Bromley Park about 1.30pm.
A large amount of smoke could be seen as firefighters were dampening down hot spots in the area.
The fire is also thought to have been deliberately lit. Fire crews responded after receiving several reports from members of the public.
