Arrests made after burglar spotted on roof of house

Police foiled an attempted burglary on Monday night after a man was spotted on the roof of a house in Christchurch.

A police spokeswoman said they received a report of someone acting suspiciously near a property at the corner of Pine Ave and Caspian St in New Brighton about 6.30pm.

A number of police units were called to the scene, including an armed response team and the Eagle helicopter.

Three people were arrested at the scene - one suspect was found inside the property, one was on the roof and another was in a nearby car. 

A man was also assaulted during the incident, the spokeswoman said.

A 29-year-old, a 33-year-old and a 19-year-old are due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday on aggravated robbery charges.
