Otago Daily Times/Rural Life Year of the Farmer competition winner Myfanwy Alexander (right) with her partner Scott Kingan and her children Isabelle, 12, and Emily, 14, held a Year of the Farmer celebration at their Duntroon home last week.
Ms Alexander, a contract milker on a 1000-cow dairy farm, hosted a barbecue for members of her local community and representatives of sponsors Silver Fern Farms and Speight’s.
The competition was launched at the Wānaka A&P Show in March in a bid to highlight South Island farmers who were farming in an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable way while making their rural community a better place to live.
Following the success of the initiative this year, the Rural Champion campaign will be rolled out again next year.
