Otago Daily Times/Rural Life Year of the Farmer competition winner Myfanwy Alexander (right) with her partner Scott Kingan and her children Isabelle, 12, and Emily, 14, held a Year of the Farmer celebration at their Duntroon home last night.
The competition was launched at the Wanaka A&P show in March in a bid to highlight South Island farmers who were farming in an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable way, while making their rural community a better place to live.
Ms Alexander, a contract milker on a 1000-cow dairy farm, hosted a barbecue for members of her local community and representatives of sponsors Silver Fern Farms, Speight’s, RD Petroleum and Farmlands.
Following the success of the initiative this year, the Rural Champion campaign will be rolled out again next year.
