About 2500 velvetting deer were run on the farm, Mr Moore said.
"We breed for velvet and the secondary income is venison."
Southland cray fisherman Robert White bought the farm about seven years ago, Mr Moore said.
Cresslea was now about 1000ha as nearby properties were bought and more than 130km of deer fencing was installed.
More land acquisitions included about 200ha across two blocks where deer fencing continued to provide the farm "a bit more flat and a bit more scope".
The new land would be used to produce feed for the existing herd.
He did not expect deer numbers to increase once the fencing was finished.
"I think we are about max deer at the moment."
