Catching waves at the Surfing For Farmers (SFF) event at Kaka Point last week were (from left) Tuvia Bielski, 13, Hamish Bielski and Lindsay Alderton.

Local co-ordinator Paul Richardson said the season started with three sessions before Christmas.

"They’ve all been really well supported with 35-40 people per night.

"You can find it gets all-consuming on the farm, thinking about all kinds of pressures from the weather to markets and regulations, a weekly surf is an excellent way to get out and get your mind completely off it, with people just like you doing the exact same thing so you know you’re not alone," Mr Richardson said.
