A Southland veteran cow was among the winners of an annual national competition judging individual Holstein Friesians on type at their home properties.

For the 2024 Holstein Friesian New Zealand-Semex On Farm Competition, 739 Holstein Friesian cows, from 90 herds, were judged across eight regions, evaluated for their inherent structural correctness, using specially developed linear scoring.

The cows get judged in natural conditions, without being fitted or halter led.

Velvaleen Gold Rosa-ET, of Hall’s Enterprises in Wallacetown, won the veteran cow section.

Ingleside Alina S2F, of Ingleside Farms in Wyndham, was third in the 3-year-old cow section, Lyncrest Sidekick Lucy-ET, of Lyncrest Dairies in Invercargill, was second in the 4-year-old section and Anglo DRM Kanga-Red, of Port Molyneux Dairies in Balclutha, was third in the 5-year-old section.
