Two fire crews remained at an industrial warehouse in Christchurch overnight, monitoring what Fire and Emergency NZ described as a deep-seated fire.
Fenz was alerted to the blaze on Maces Rd in Bromley at 12.52pm on Monday.
The fire engulfed a warehouse and spread thick smoke across the city, but firefighters managed to contain it before it spread to any other buildings.
On Tuesday morning, shift manager Simon Lyford said the blaze would take some time to put out.

Crews would reassess the situation at first light, he said.
Environment Canterbury says staff with booms are preventing discharge into waterways at the Linwood canal and Humphries Drive, near the estuary.
One person was taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation from the fire.
