A body was found near the Avon River in Christchurch on Monday morning.
Police were called to the intersection of Churchill St and Cambridge Tce about 6.30am after a person discovered the body.
A cyclist on their way into work about 7.45am told The Press they saw “what appeared to be a body just lying on the bank of the river”.
The area around where the body was found was cordoned off by police.
A police spokesperson said the death was not suspicious and will be referred to the coroner.
Police remained at the scene until about 8.40am.
A person at the scene earlier this morning told Chris Lynch Media Cambridge Tce was blocked off by police vehicles and an ambulance.
