The developers of a Summerset retirement village in Rangiora say they are happy things are slowly falling into place despite the lack of visible progress on site.

After a couple of years of almost no visible progress on the Townsend Road site, a Summerset spokesperson says the project remains on track.

‘‘We plan to commence earthworks in the first half of 2023, with permanent infrastructure to follow pending consent approvals,’’ the spokesperson says.

When completed the $150 million retirement village on the corner of South Belt and Townsend Road is expected to have more than 300 ‘‘independent living’’ style homes, including two and three-bedroom villas and serviced apartments.

Developers say they expect to start building the first units in 2024, nearly four years since consent was approved in October 2020 for Summerset to build there.

‘‘We are starting to look forward to getting into the more active stages of development,’’ the spokesperson says.

The much anticipated project is expected to generate up to 300 jobs during the construction phase, and create 60 permanent positions once completed.

It will also provide rest-home and hospital level care, as well as state-of the-art memory care apartments for those with dementia.

A range of community facilities will be on offer to residents, such as a residents’ bar, indoor pool, exercise room, barbecue facilities, lounge, library, hair salon, and an all-weather bowling green.
