A 26-year-old man has been charged with driving in a dangerous manner after leading police on a pursuit through Christchurch.

Police signalled to the driver to stop about 4am on Monday after receiving reports of dangerous driving in St Albans.

The vehicle failed to stop and police started a pursuit.

The driver and vehicle were then located on Cranford St.

The 26-year-old has been charged with driving in a dangerous manner, failing to stop, driving without a licence and a breach of bail.

He was due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday morning.

It follows a spate of police chases in Christchurch recently.

Last week, two youths were arrested after allegedly fleeing police in a stolen vehicle.

Jayden Breakwell, 18, was also sentenced to prison last week after he killed another motorist while fleeing police in Christchurch. He was sentenced to two years and eight months' jail.
