But now the Greater Hornby Residents' Association has reached 4000 likes, it is determined to outdo the previous prize.
It will give away three laps in a V8 Ford or Holden at Mike Pero Motorsport Park Raceway.
Association chairman Marc Duff said everyone who likes the page since it reached 4000 will go in the draw.
He said the "flat-out" passenger thrill ride will see the winner hit the race track with Formula 5000 Tasman Championship winner Chris Hyde driving.
He said the association put the idea to NZV8 Hot Laps and it grew from there.
When the Facebook page reaches 5000 likes, the association will make a decision on whether or not it will hold another prize draw.
