Five questions for Blues hooker Jacob Payne.

1. Favourite rugby memory?

Probably at Southland Boys’ High School, when we beat Otago Boys’ for the first time in eight or something years. That was my first year in the team. I remember thinking, gee, this is good stuff.

2. Hardest opponent?

My first year out of school, it would have been playing against Cabbage (Jason Rutledge). It still is now, to be fair. He lets you know about it. I swear the ref’s always on his side, too, ha ha.

3. What rugby player do you admire and why?

I always loved Dane Coles. He was a hard man, and he threw a bit of stick out, and he got round the pitch really well.

4. What do you do to relax?

Just hang with family and chill. I play a bit of golf but I’m not that good so it almost does the opposite to me.

5. If Jacob Payne is cooking, what are we eating?

Steak, eggs and chips.
