Otago rowers won seven more A-final medals to wrap a successful week at the national championships at Lake Ruataniwha on Saturday.

Two golds, four silvers and a bronze represented a solid haul on the final day of the regatta.

The feature row on Saturday came from the Dunstan Arm men’s club coxless quad crew of Simon Smith, Mathew King, Jed McIntosh and Simon Lloyd.

They showed plenty of power and pace to win in 6min 20.73sec, more than 1sec clear of a Canterbury crew.

An extremely promising Oamaru crew also charged to gold.

The women’s intermediate coxed eight of Kalani Fisilau, Sophie Rohrbach, Sophie Spittle, Molly O’Sullivan, Chloe Southard, Atlanta McDowell-Williams, Holly Collett, Ariah Goodsir and cox Greer Dickson won in 7min 19.58sec, 3.5sec clear of Waikato.

Oamaru crews also bagged a pair of silvers.

Scott Hay, Jett Rogers, Nye Jones-Hogan, Lochlan McLaren and cox Payton Dickson were second in the men’s intermediate coxed four, and Harrison Friend, Jake Roney, Stuart Isbister, Jacob Harrison and Greer Dickson were second in the men’s novice coxed four.

Otago University rowers Phoebe Trolove, Juliette Alm-Lequeux, Greta Hawke and Eva Hofmans claimed silver in the women’s senior coxless quad, and Dunstan Arm rowers Henry Clatworthy, Jack Pearson, Harry Wilkinson and Angus Kenny won silver in the men’s senior coxless quad.

The sole Otago bronze on the final day of the regatta was claimed by the developing Otago University club coxless pair of Hannah Matehaere and Manaia Butler.

Avon won the glamour men’s eight final from a field that contained several crews drafted together just days before the event, and the Christchurch-based club also won the Boss Rooster for the men’s coxless four.

Waikato won the women’s eight.

Awards after the regatta were presented to Olympic gold medallist Emma Twigg (female rower of the year), rising single sculler Jordan Parry (male rower of the year) and Mike Rodger (coach of the year).

Five Dunstan rowers have been invited to attend national age group trials at Lake Karāpiro this week.

They are Angus Kenny (under-23 men), Charlotte Lightfoot (under-21 women), Gerard Wall, Henry Clatworthy and Jack Pearson (under-21 men).
