Kudos for Emerson’s Bookbinder

Emerson's Brewery in Dunedin has won one of the top category 13 "best in class'' awards at the 2016 New World Beer & Cider awards.

At the two-day event in Wellington, 458 different beers and ciders from 83 brewers across 13 categories were blind judged by a panel of 15 judges.

Queenstown's Altitude Brewing won a gold medal in the Stout, Porter & Black Beer category, for its brew The Moonlight Track.

Forty gold medals were awarded, with 13, including Emerson's Bookbinder, winning overall best in class.

Winners were. - Pale ale: Epic Pale Ale; IPA: Epic Armageddon IPA; European-style ale: Sparks Brewing Prospector Farmhouse Ale; British-style ale: Emerson's Bookbinder; and American-style Ale: Garage Project Los Lobos; lager: Steinlager Pure; pilsner: Tuatara Bohemian Pilsner; wheat and other grain beer: Moa Southern Alps White IPA; stout, porter and black beer: Eagle Brewing Coalface Stout; experimental, aged, fruit and flavoured beer: Kereru Imperial Nibs; lower alcohol and session beer: Peroni Leggera; apple and pear cider: The Hills Cider Company; pear cider and fruit and flavoured cider: Good George Brewing Doris.
