Constable has used basketball as a vehicle to see the world since leaving Cashmere High School and heading into the US college system in 2008.
A regular Canterbury age group representative and New Zealand under-18 international, Constable completed a bachelor of physics with first class honours at Gettysburg College while playing in the NCAA.
Constable made the academic honour roll at Gettyburg for three successive years, and after he finished his time in Pennsylvania in 2013, he moved to Durban, where he played for the Kwa-Zulu Marlins in the South African NBL.
Constable headed to the United Kingdom in 2019 to play and coach at Oxford University, while studying for a MBA, a quest that continues now he is back home.
“Ben’s international experience and leadership is something we are looking forward to having as a part of our squad this season,” Rams general manager Caleb Harrison said.
“Ben brings a diverse range of experiences to the Canterbury Rams. He is a great example of the life experiences and opportunities that can be created through basketball.”
The Rams also confirmed forward Alex Talma will be rejoining the roster for his third campaign.
Auckland-born Talma joined the Rams after completing a basketball scholarship at Biola University in Los Angeles.
“It’s an awesome situation to have Alex back fighting hard. He’s a team first warrior who imposes himself in the game,” Rams head coach Mick Downer said.
The NBL tips off on April 24, with the Rams opening their campaign six days later against the Wellington Saints in the capital.
