They were tears of joy for the 12-year-old singer, who was selected as a cast member for Broadway Entertainment Group’s production of Shrek The Musical, which is to tour the Middle East this month.
Hermione played Young Princess Fiona in a Christchurch production of the show earlier this year, where she was spotted by international producers from the Broadway Entertainment Group.
She will now reprise her role on a tour to the Middle East.
"I was like kind of confused when they first told me — this is not happening.
"I was very, very excited. Happy tears."
Shrek The Musical is based on the Academy Award-winning animated film Shrek, which is set in a twisted fairy tale kingdom, turned upside down by an unseemly ogre — not a handsome prince — who shows up to rescue a feisty princess.
She said it was like living in a fairy tale.
"It’s going to be the opportunity of a lifetime."
She was looking forward to being in the bright lights of the international stages and taking her passion for musical theatre to a truly international level.
Hermione has previously played musical theatre roles in local productions, including Les Miserables, Matilda the Musical and Moana, and has danced several times with the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
She hoped her latest role would be a stepping stone to even bigger things in the future - perhaps even a role in a Hollywood movie.
"Being in the movies would be a cool career.
"If that happens, I’ll buy my mum a new car, another house - no, a mansion."
