Organisers are pleased with the turnout to the events so far, with a number of events booked out already.
The annual celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community was launched on Friday night with a huge street party as more than 700 members of the rainbow community and their supporters strutted their stuff down Cashel Street for the 'Walk for Support' parade and watched performances on stage.
Christchurch Pride chairperson Jill Stevens said events like PRIDE week help increase the visibility of the city's rainbow community, but there's still work to do.
"I think there's a lot of people here today, so maybe it's moving forward. We'll just take one step at a time".
There is a range of 40 events over the festival's 10 days, including a Queer Magic Show, Pride Bingo, Qtopia Pride Ball and a 'Heroes vs Police' touch rugby game.
PRIDE week activities continue through until Sunday.
