A lunch is planned at Hotel Ashburton on March 26 and it will include speeches, toasts and the cutting of a birthday cake.
The garden club held its first meeting on March 24, 1960.
Current club treasurer Alison Scammell said seven club members, including herself and president Pam Tait, had followed their mothers or mothers-in-laws in joining the club.
The club was big on camaraderie and and brought like-minded women together monthly to focus on gardens and gardening.
Members heard from guest speakers, went on two annual bus trips and also enjoyed regular plant sales.
The focus was less on decorative floral art and more on house plants and cut flowers these days, she said.
Tinwald Garden Club president Pam Tait said club membership currently stood at 46 and had remained steady over many years.
Members were mainly older women and monthly meetings took place on the fourth Thursday of the month at 2pm in the Hakatere Presbyterian Church in Tinwald.
Mrs Tait said it was hoped that the club’s longest serving member and its patroness, Jan Grimmett, who was in her 90s, would attend the 60th anniversary celebration and would cut the cake.
Around 70 people turned out for the garden club’s 50th anniversary.
