A police spokesperson said one person was in a serious condition and three others were in a moderate condition after a three-vehicle crash about 12.20pm on State Highway 1 near Mill Road, Leithfield.
It is also understood there were serious injuries after a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 7 near the Marble Point Stock Underbridge just after 8am.
State Highway 1, between Hursley Tce Rd and Mill Rd, was closed after the crash but reopened about 2.40pm.
The serious crash unit was called to both scenes.
Hato Hone St John said they were alerted to the first crash at 8.04am. An ambulance, helicopter and two PRIME doctors [Primary Response In Medical Emergencies] were sent to the scene.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advised motorists to avoid the areas if possible.
