State Highway 73 in Arthur's Pass (West Coast Rd) is currently blocked following a crash earlier today, police say.
The crash involved two vehicles and happened about 4.20pm near the Waimakariri River bridge.
Indications are that there are moderate to serious injuries.
The road is expected to be closed for some time and motorists are asked to delay travel, a police spokesperson said.
