The popular Farewell to the Godwits event at Southshore Spit on Sunday may have been cancelled, but the level 2 lockdown didn't stop hundreds of godwits from taking off on their annual trip across the globe.

A flock of godwits were filmed departing Christchurch at the weekend on their way to Alaska for the summer.
