Take a look inside the function lounge at Christchurch’s new stadium

The roof cladding and premium hospitality spaces are swiftly coming together at Christchurch’s new $683 million central city stadium.

In a video released on Thursday, Christchurch City Council project director Kent Summerfield provided an overview of the project's progress.

The video takes viewers inside the function lounge on level one of the west stand.

“This is a large space capable of hosting almost 900 people,” said Summerfield.

The lounge can be divided in two by an operable wall and features a kitchen and bar area in each space.

“All the flooring is down, framing and the glazing in, and the fit out for the kitchen and bar areas well advanced."

The hospitality areas also have access to a balcony space with an uninterrupted view of the field.

Summerfield said the premium general admission area on the third floor is also being fitted out.

“Alongside the great views, this area will also have dedicated services including a feature bar."

As well as the large function lounge, the stadium has 23 corporate suites, 32 food and beverage outlets, and a crowd capacity of 30,000 for sports matches and at least 36,000 for concerts.

“The excellent progress the team has made over the last month means that we’re on target for an opening in April 2026 and the project remains on budget."

Summerfield said the southern area is now "well advanced with the roof and façade cladding" being put in.

The stairs in the south stand, which backs onto Tuam St, are also being installed.

Summerfield said several large cranes have been decommissioned and the hydraulic support towers will be deconstructed over the next month.

With the steel superstructure completed in late January, the large cranes and temporary roof support structures are no longer required.
